| As related in 'The Famous BOA', this black 107E, after six years of exemplary service, was by September 2006 in need of serious work, which I had no time to carry out. At this time, Graham coincidentally put his Prefect, BLC, up for sale, Buying this car and selling BOA to a sympathetic owner would be a more realistic, and probably cheaper, option than doing the body repairs on a car that was in heavy daily use.
A deal was struck, but the car was due on the FSOC's stand at the NEC in October. I left the car in Graham's care to allow it to fulfil this commitment, and I travelled down to the NEC on the last day of the show to collect it. The drive home was rather louder than expected, with both the gearbox and rear axle contributing, but no problems were encountered. It was obvious that the car need to be used to get rid of the cobwebs, but prior to this needed a full service and one or two defects making good (such as putting some oil in the afore-mentioned gearbox and axle!). These took a week or two, and the now continuous use brought forth a few more problems, but each was dealt with as it arose. They were more anoyances, really; and the car has been 100% reliable in the 15 months and 21,000 miles of my ownership. I've made a few modifications to suit my taste, but she still looks pretty much as Fords built her, except for an outbreak of lamps! Graham has now offered me the original engine (Engine and Chassis Numbers origianllly matched) and this will be refitted, after being overhauled and upgraded to 1200cc. So far, we're getting along very well together. This is the way I intend it to stay! |
